1) Introduction
CamelRider is Neveprise's first
version of the Perl IDE. Yes - I know that there are a lot of more
such editors out there that even support other languages (btw.: who
said CamelRideris just for PerlScript??? :-) ). But most of'em are
Shareware. Okay - they are more professional, but CamelRider is and
will be Freeware in the future, and I hope to improove this tool from
time to time. Please try it and please give a response, regardless if
you want to report bugs etc. or not. Always happy when getting
feedback.
2) Known bugs
The following list reveals known bugs,
strange behaviour and missing or incomplete features of CamelRider.
- Help:
the help system and documentation is far from completed and most
probably full of mistakes. Hope to have time to finish it and to
remove the wrong things.
- Running
scripts directly: Perl / script cannot receive parameters
from STDIN or commandline yet - only parameters for Perl itself
work. Thus, giving a script those params is only possible doing it
from an associated HTML form using a webserver. If anyone knows
how to manually (means by commandline) pass parameters kinda
"script.pl?var1=hello&var2=world" (GET method) and
those passed from forms (POST method), please mail to:
mail@neveprise.de .
- Console:
only internal commands (means: internal commands from cmd.exe /
command.com) are displayed in the console itself. Others are
displayed in a dedicated window.
- Code
inspector: sometimes it may happen that things that are not
variables and subroutines are listed, e.g. stuff in comments
- Syntax
highlighting: very bad thing!!! Okay, it is a self hack and
hope to improove it. Problems: when starting a new script,
colouring is completely weird. Some words are coloured wrong, not
at all or it does not fit. Tip: type more than 256 characters,
save the code, close and reopen it - should be better (but
sometimes still bad :-((( ) And: speed!!!!! It just takes too long
to make the code shiny....dammned. Tip: switch syntax highlighting
off if it takes too long, or just remove some definitions, e.g.
just let marking comments turned on.
- Syntax
highlighting options (editor preferences): sometimes the
settings are not accepted. Tip: no matter if adding a new
definition or changing it, always change the scope options.
- File /
directory settings: these options have *no* effect at all
at the moment....*g
- View options:
"Tip of the day" visible setting not reminded the right
way.
- Custom
shortcuts: eeh, somehow not perfect
- Build-in
browser: back / next buttons cause an "unknown
error" when having no further pages to jump to.
- Switching
between code and HTML: formerly loaded - context defined -
HTML pages are taken off, e.g. when opening help.
- Tip of the
day: not implemented yet - just turn its visibility state
off.
- ...some more I do not remember
anymore...
3) Forthcoming features
Besides fixing bugs above and
completing / revising the help and documentation, the following
updates are planned:
- Code
templates: delivering ones that really make sense (please
send generic samples - they are welcome).
- Code
templates: support for compilation packages containing more
than one template, e.g. a complete set of templates.
- Scheduler:
advanced task scheduler plus freestyle "notepads".
- Update:
internet update capability.
- HTML:
supporting dedicated HTML templates and (maybe???) a visible
WYSIWYG editor.
- Find /
replace: enhanced find and (new:) replace functions for
your code.
- Print:
code should be printable...
- Bug
reporting: interface for that.
- Converter:
source files can be converted from Windows to UNIX and vice versa.
- ...more? depends on you!
