Sippschaft
Family trees from plain text files.
Sippschaft visualizes genealogy data as an interactive tree. Each family member is a Markdown file with YAML metadata. There is no database and no import format, only folders and text files.
Features
One set of files, three views.
Tree view
Shows the whole family as a tree: parents above, spouses side by side, one generation per row.
Node graph
A force-directed graph of all relationships. Drag nodes and zoom to follow a line of the family.
Profiles
Each person gets a page with photo, dates, biography and links to relatives.
Themes
Two themes: Modern and Neon.
Plain text
Your data stays in Markdown files that any text editor can read and change. No database, no proprietary format.
Static export
Exports a self-contained static website. Host it, send it by email or copy it to a USB stick; it needs no server.
Screenshots
The same family in three views.
Install
Download the binary and point it at your data folder:
./sippschaft --data /path/to/my/family
Available for Linux, macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon) and Windows.
Use at your own risk. Back up your files first.
