2002-05-19

This has been an bugfix update only:

  • some layout errors have been fixed
  • articles can now be gotten in PostScript, PDF, plain text and non-framed HTML
  • repaired review's overview box at the end
  • some image links repaired
  • reviews can now be rated again
2002-05-09

Again, a few things have changed. The obvious thing is the new design, including these changes and modifications:

  • new overall design
  • got rid of any JavaScripts
  • menus now contain information on what they point to, including date as well as "new" and "update" indicators
  • search results now embedded into design
  • article rating also embedded into design
  • accidently found some .gif files in the operating systems section - replaced by .png

Before posting any new material, i am currently working on these items:

  • find and fix bugs (dead links etc - please report)
  • improve existing material: partially rewrites planned
  • re-implement other formats like plain text, pure HTML (with no site navigation), PDF, PostScript
  • some smaller UI improvements
2002-05-03

Added article introduction on XSL. This is a more non-tech article, specialized ones on XSLT will follow.

Note: i still did not have envie to overwork the previous uploaded XML article :-)

2002-03-22

Added article introduction on XML. Due to a lack of time currently, this is just an unfinished version. There is still missing information on DOM, SAX, XLink, XPath, XSLT, SOAP and so on, as well as a small history on the predessessor SGML.

2002-02-23
  • Added Glimmer review (source code editor).
  • Article's table of contents numbered again.
  • Did a few XLink standardizations, still ongoing.
  • Few minor changes.
2002-02-14

Each article or review can be rated now. The form can be found on the right side; you can choose between five "quality levels" and you cann additionally post a comment. Your vote is kept anonymous.

Also did some other minor changes.

2002-02-10

Added a review of the X Multimedia System (XMMS) from 4Front Technologies.

2002-02-09

Some new content and fixes:

  • Articles: Fixed / added tiny description lines indicating a summary of the document, so as HOWTOs do.
  • Added software section:
    • Added an article on the importance of Open Source and Free Software.
    • Added a review on the CD audio grabber Cdparanoia.
    • Added a review on the Ogg/Vorbis audio encoder OggEnc.
2002-02-05
  • Bugfix: Repaired the XSL stylesheet so that articles now have a table of contents (TOC) again.
  • Created a news section; to my shame, it is kinda mirror of this page, but i hope to increase non-neveprise news; especially regarding all around Free Software products and projects such as Debian GNU/Linux, GNOME 2 etc.
2002-02-03
  • Articles can now be retrieved in:
    • PostScript (.ps)
    • Portable Document Format (.pdf)
    • HTML (.html)
    • plain ASCII text (.txt)
I still have problems with all formats except HTML: text files contains garbage, PDFs have non-working links and bad graphics while PostScripts do not work at all with my local GhostScript, dunno if they are okay.
  • "Search" image ported for IE compatibility (blame this thing on bad PNG support, no real alpha channels).
2002-02-01

Still no new content, but:

  • Implemented simple help (allows a single word search, results are shown in an ugly page, will hack some more my perl script); script will soon be available here for your use.
  • Updated start page, non-javascript link still not working; but: the promised javascript version still is free!
  • Updated stylesheet a bit, fixed some graphix for IE; search caption still needs to be converted for IE.
  • Fixed hyperref to the GPL.
2002-01-30

No new content, just wiped out these issues (partially):

  • Replaced most PNGs with IE compatible graphics (no alpha channel).
  • Fixed _some_ broken links.
  • Added visual links (kinda banner links, but these are no ads).
  • Replaced startpage, still broken images.
2002-01-12

Upload of first beta version. This beta site contains only few content and has missing features:

  • No search implemented yet.
  • Non-javascript site not up so far.
  • Documents will be available also as XML (custom format), PDF, PostScript and plain text.
  • Articles can be rated in the future.

During the next time, existing articles will be revised (there are still orthographic and content faults) and new ones will be posted.
